R&D Manager

R&D laboratory

Within our R&D lab we work intensively on the development of new products and the improvement of existing products. The focus is on the cheese and packaging industry, hot-melt adhesives and dispersions / emulsions. In the R&D lab you will work with R&D Technicians, Product Developers, Product Specialists and Research Scientists.

QC laboratory

In our Quality Control lab (QC), all our raw materials are checked upon arrival. During production, the quality is closely monitored to provide the highest possible quality. The QC laboratory department consists of five QC Technicians led by a QC Manager.

Analytical laboratory

Our Analytical lab has modern instrumental analysis techniques to ensure everything in detail. The analytical lab supports both the R&D and QC lab. The Analytical lab consists of two Analytical Chemists and an Analytical Supervisor.

Job description

In this challenging role, you will have many responsibilities and will work on different projects at the same time. It is therefore important that you are stress resistant, with an eye for detail. It is important that you are willing to learn about the different (technical) properties of our raw materials and applications of our products.

Critical within Paramelt is the strategic sourcing and qualification of key raw materials on the basis of costs and availability and building a robust portfolio of contingency options and alternatives.

In this position you report to the Research & Technology Group Manager.

Key responsibilities

Within this role, you will be responsible for:

• managing approximately 30 lab employees to ensure timely and effective delivery of business needs.
• working together with Procurement to support raw material selection and cost saving projects for the region.
• laboratory safety and compliance.
• coaching and mentoring the development team in scientific content and approach.
• coordinating with various departments, such as Sales, Purchasing and Production.
• maintaining equipment availability and calibration.
• supporting key customer and supplier relationships that assist business maintenance and growth.
• the coordination with external laboratories regarding outsourced work.
• performing audits and following up on improvement actions resulting from these audits.
• taking the initiative for the continuous improvement and/or renewal of products and taking care of the development of new and/or improvement of existing products with regard to technical or commercial issues.

Your profile

For this exciting position, we are looking for a suitable candidate who:

• has experience in R&D and people management.
• has completed an HBO/WO education in chemistry or another scientific field.
• has good planning & organizing skills and is result oriented.
• has excellent command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing; knowledge of German and/or French is preferred.
• preferably has knowledge of waxes, adhesives and/or dispersions.
• has technical skills and good stress resistance.
